We’re back with another top apps feature, based on real user behavior and usage patterns. Last week we took a look at paid apps in India, the UK and the US; this week we’re going to explore the top 10 free apps used by these countries.Today we’re looking at Top UK free apps for Android.
The majority of this list is dominated by social and communication apps, with 6 out of the 10 top used apps from these two categories. Facebook reigns at #1 – no surprise there. WhatsApp Messenger follows close behind at #2. Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook Messenger come in at 6, 7, & 8 respectively. Messaging and video call app Viber closes out the list at #10.
Google apps are also making quite a strong presence in free apps. The Chrome Browser app is the browser of choice, and the 3rd most used app on this list. Meanwhile, Google-owned YouTube takes 4th place, while the Google quick searchbox trails close behind at #5.
Compared to the rest of the top apps on this list, the presence of the HTC Sense Home app seems unusual. But as we’ve seen from the top paid app lists, personalization apps are all the rage, with users willing to shell out considerable cash for a customizable interface. The HTC Sense Home app allows for a lot of customization as well, making it a great alternative to paid versions. Given the enormous popularity of paid personalization apps like the 3D Shell, it’ll be interesting to see if other free versions of these kinds of app will be equally successful.
Overall, the heavy dominance of social and communication apps illustrates how important social sharing and communication are across all devices. People like to stay connected, and these top apps are helping them do just that.
