Facebook Slowly Overtaking All Forms of Communication

When it comes to mobile social networking apps, Facebook is killing it. That’s what we think the social media giant will conclude on Wednesday, April 22nd when it presents shareholders with the results of its Q2 2015 earnings.

According to our mobile app data, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp (all owned by Facebook) were the top-ranked free social networking apps in the U.S. in Apple’s AppStore for the recent 28-day period ending on April 18th. The Silicon Valley company also has the top three and the number 13 free Appstore apps across all categories.

Similarly, Facebook also dominates U.S. social networking and communications categories in the Google Play app store. Facebook and Instagram are the top-ranked free social networking apps, while WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are the 2nd and 3rd ranked communication apps for Android.

Continued mobile growth is critical to Facebook’s business. In its January 2015 10k annual report, the company stated, “We anticipate that growth in mobile users will continue to be the driver of our user growth for the foreseeable future.” That prediction certainly appears true.
