{"id":142872,"date":"2023-01-18T20:11:06","date_gmt":"2023-01-18T20:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/?p=142872"},"modified":"2024-04-21T14:35:32","modified_gmt":"2024-04-21T14:35:32","slug":"similarweb-data-on-leading-travel-sites-for-december-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/insights\/travel-news\/similarweb-data-on-leading-travel-sites-for-december-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Similarweb Travel Market Update: December 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Booking.com dominates yearly growth and takes share of traffic from peers in a rising industry<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Booking.com led peers in growth in December 2022, rising 28% year over year, sharply above peer growth.<\/li>\n<li>Booking took a share of traffic from peers, gaining two percentage points while all other peers lost share of traffic in this cohort<\/li>\n<li>All the peers in this cohort did see rising traffic on a yearly and monthly basis but notably, Airbnb grew at the slowest rate in the cohort on an annual basis, and lost the most share of traffic in the group.<\/li>\n<li>Tripadvisor was the leader in this group in terms of total traffic, with 89 million visitors in December 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Booking.com leads peers in annual growth<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of yearly growth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/booking.com\/\">Booking.com<\/a> grew at a sharply faster rate than peers with 28% traffic growth in December. However, all peers did see growth on a year-over-year basis, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/expedia.com\/\">Expedia<\/a> second, at 17% growth, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/tripadvisor.com\/\">Tripadvisor<\/a> with 15% growth. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/airbnb.com\/\">Airbnb<\/a> sharply lagged the peer average growth rate of 15.6%, growing only 6% versus last year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-142873 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/similarweb_travel_market_update_december_1-600x371-1.png\" alt=\"Chart: Visits to leading travel websites, Year over year, December 2022\" width=\"600\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/similarweb_travel_market_update_december_1-600x371-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/similarweb_travel_market_update_december_1-600x371-1-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/similarweb_travel_market_update_december_1-600x371-1-512x317.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>All five peers saw month-over-month growth<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of monthly growth, December saw growth for all five peers in this cohort versus November, with Tripadvisor rising the fastest at 8.8%, followed by Airbnb at 8.2% and Booking at 8.1%. Airbnb lost the most relative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/marketing\/marketing-strategy\/traffic-share\/\">traffic share<\/a>, losing over two percentage points versus peers. Prior to joining Similarweb, Jim was a 30-year Wall Street professional, who covered the industrials, transportation, technology and specialty retail spaces throughout his career, among others. From 2020-September 2021, Jim served as an industry analyst and senior content moderator at Guidepoint, an expert network company. He created events of interest to Wall Street and interviewed subject matter experts including former CEOs, CFOs and other executives and industry experts. He also previously held the position of Director of Industrials Research at S&amp;P Global. Mr. Corridore joined CFRA in 2016 and S&amp;P Global in 1988. He is a seven-time winner of the Wall Street Journal\u2019s \u201cBest on the Street\u201d poll and has won several other awards for his stock-picking acumen.
