That growth was powered by 82.9 million searches in January and 11.7 million social visits over the past 28 days.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/chat.openai.com\/\">chat.openai.com<\/a> subdomain for the app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/insights\/ai-news\/chatgpt-25-million\/\">topped 25 million daily visits last week<\/a> and has been adding about 519,000 visits per day on average.<\/p>\n<p>That makes openai.com the #44 site on the web, overall, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/\">Similarweb&#8217;s rankings<\/a> for January.<\/p>\n<h2>Key takeaways<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Searches for ChatGPT and related terms topped 82.9 million in January, according to Similarweb estimates.<\/li>\n<li>Over the last 28 days, 28% of the traffic to openai.com came from organic search, and 3.4% came from social media.<\/li>\n<li>Of the social referrals, 56.7% were from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/youtube.com\/\">YouTube<\/a>, 12.4% from WhatsApp, 10% from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/facebook.com\/\">Facebook<\/a>, and 6.9% from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/twitter.com\/\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where ChatGPT gets its traffic<\/h2>\n<p>While almost 65.6% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/openai.com\/\">traffic to openai.com<\/a> comes directly to the website, reflecting strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/research\/audience-and-brand-building\/brand-awareness\/\">brand awareness<\/a> and repeat visits, another 28% comes from organic search \u2013 people wanting to know where to find the app they\u2019ve heard so much about.
