Match, the dominant player in online dating, saw nearly unrelenting decreases across its many brands.<\/p>\n<h2>Key takeaways<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>US web traffic to Match brand websites was down in February, by 18.6% year-over-year for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/match.com\/\">match.com<\/a>, 7.3% for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/tinder.com\/\">Tinder<\/a>, 31.8% for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/pof.com\/\">Plenty of Fish<\/a>, and 26.6% for other brands in the company\u2019s portfolio, according to Similarweb estimates. In fact, traffic was down for all competitors with the exception of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/bumble.com\/\">Bumble<\/a>, which saw a 6.7% year-over-year increase.<\/li>\n<li>The pattern was similar for dating apps, judging by the engagement of Android users from within the US For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.similarweb.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/6450621690769-Monthly-Active-Users\">Monthly Active Users<\/a> were down 20.9% for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/app\/google-play\/com.tinder\/statistics\/\">Tinder app<\/a>, 26.9% for Plenty of Fish, and 42.7% for OurTime. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/app\/google-play\/com.match.android.matchmobile\/statistics\/\">Match<\/a> itself, which tends to be stronger on the web than as an app, saw monthly users increase by 3.2%.<\/li>\n<li>On average, dating user engagement was down 13% as measured by web visits and 22.7% on apps, as measured by US monthly active users for Android.<\/li>\n<li>Although this review focuses on traffic and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/app\/\">app engagement stats<\/a> from within the US, the pattern was not dramatically better internationally. For example, the global web traffic was down 21.6% year-over-year for Match, 8.8% for Tinder, and 33.8% for Plenty of Fish. On the other hand, Bumble\u2019s performance looks even better internationally, with a 12.9% gain. The gay dating app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/app\/google-play\/com.grindrapp.android\/statistics\/\">Grindr<\/a> saw an even better 23.7% year-over-year gain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Traffic dropped from February 2022<\/h2>\n<p>On a year-over-year basis, traffic was down for all the players we studied, with the exception of Bumble (+6.7%).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-144984 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1.png\" alt=\"chart: dating on the web, year over year\" width=\"1600\" height=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1.png 1600w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1-1024x475.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1-768x356.png 768w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1-1536x712.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/dating_apps_1-512x237.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We saw a similar pattern looking at engagement with mobile apps for dating.
