Amazon shows up as the ecommerce king when we look at that data, but lesser-known names like IHerb.com also show outstanding performance.<\/p>\n<p>For this analysis, we looked up conversion rate data for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/\">top websites ranked by traffic<\/a> in Similarweb\u2019s classification of ecommerce websites. These are sites for which Similarweb analysts have mapped out the ecommerce workflow, from items placed in a shopping cart to confirmed purchases. Our estimates are based on desktop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/\">web traffic<\/a> from within the US for the three months, March to May 2023.<\/p>\n<h2>Key takeaways<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The sites with the best conversion rates are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/amazon.com\/\">amazon.com<\/a> at 11.1%, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/iherb.com\/\">iherb.com<\/a>, 7.9%, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/walmart.com\/\">walmart.com<\/a>, 6.8%.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/alibaba.com\/\">Alibaba.com<\/a> had the best combination of a high conversion rate (6.6%) and year-over-year improvement in that rate, up 1.2 percentage points from the same three months of last year. Apparel retailer Michael Kors (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/michaelkors.com\/\">michaelkors.com<\/a>) gained 1.2 points year-over-year to a 4.4% conversion rate.<\/li>\n<li>For many other sites, conversion rates were either flat or down slightly from last year. Amazon\u2019s conversion rate was down a fraction of a point (0.8) year-over-year and Duluth Trading Company (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/duluthtrading.com\/\">duluthtrading.com<\/a>) was down 2.4 points, albeit to a still strong 6.6%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Top conversion rates<\/h2>\n<p>Amazon has a strong lead in conversions, 11.1% compared with an average of 3.9% for the other websites studied. In the next tier down, 15 players had conversion rates of better than 5%. Here is how that breaks down.<\/p>\n<p>IHerb.com, which sells nutritional supplements, had the second-best ecommerce conversion rate, 7.9%. Similarweb ranks IHerb.com #31 among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/e-commerce-and-shopping\/\">top ecommerce marketplaces<\/a>. The site gets 27% of its traffic from organic search and 22% from paid search.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-147996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Best-Ecommerce-Conversion-Rates.png\" alt=\"chart: best ecommerce conversion rates\" width=\"859\" height=\"371\" https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Best-Ecommerce-Conversion-Rates-768x332.png 768w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Best-Ecommerce-Conversion-Rates-512x221.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Most improved conversion rates<\/h2>\n<p>Conversion rates tend to remain relatively constant, but alibaba.com, michaelkors.com, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/partycity.com\/\">partycity.com<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/seatgeek.com\/\">seatgeek.com<\/a> showed notable improvements in their ecommerce conversion rates.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-147701 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_1.png\" alt=\"chart: most improved ecommerce conversion rate\" https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_1-1536x712.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_1-512x237.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the spectrum, duluthtrading.com, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/samsclub.com\/\">samsclub.com<\/a>, iherb.com, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/wish.com\/\">wish.com<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/orientaltrading.com\/\">orientaltrading.com<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/kohls.com\/\">kohls.com<\/a> each saw their conversion rates drop by more than 1.5 points.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-147702 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_2.png\" alt=\"chart: falling ecommerce conversion rates\" duluthtrading.com, and kohls.com remained near the top of our list despite that drop.<\/p>\n<p>Omitted from this list: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/bedbathandbeyond.com\/\">bedbathandbeyond.com<\/a>, which dropped 3.4 points \u2013 but the company was in the process of going out of business at the time.<\/p>\n<h2>Best converting sites by traffic<\/h2>\n<p>The sites with the best combination of a high conversion rate and a large volume of traffic in our analysis were amazon.com, walmart.com, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/target.com\/\">target.com<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/ticketmaster.com\/\">ticketmaster.com<\/a>, kohls.com, and samsclub.com.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-147703 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_3.png\" alt=\"chart: best converting sites by traffic\" width=\"1600\" height=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/next_to_amazon_iherb.com_and_3.png 1600w, above its weight with an estimated 7.9% conversion rate, it\u2019s a small site on the scale of Amazon. In May, amazon.com attracted nearly 1.9 billion desktop and mobile web visits, and others listed above got tens or hundreds of millions of visits, compared with 4.8 million for iherb.com.
