Substack increased web visitors 37% and app users 139%.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/corp\/digital-100\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarweb Digital 100 report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, released today, features expanded coverage of the fastest-growing apps as well as the fastest-growing websites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Digital 100 report for the US covers nine industry categories plus the Big Winners, which are the fastest-growing digital players from among the top 250 websites and the top 5% of apps across all industries. For the US, the industries covered are Apparel &amp; Accessories, Beauty &amp; Wellness, Consumer Electronics, Food &amp; Drinks, Home &amp; Garden, News &amp; Media, Personal Finance, and Travel &amp; Tourism. We\u2019ve included some details about the News &amp; Media (US) category below because of its overlap with Big Winners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Substack was recognized in two categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Big Winners:\n<ul>\n<li>Digital Winner for cross-platform growth for its website (visitors up 37%) and app (139% monthly active user growth)<\/li>\n<li>In the top 10 Big Winners websites, Substack was #6 behind some other media sites like Newsweek<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In New &amp; Media, Substack had the #1 fastest-growing app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Just Answer leads website rankings; ChatGPT weighs in at #9<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just Answer, a web portal promising \u201creal help from real professionals\u201d rather than algorithmic results, had the fastest unique visitor growth among the Big Winners sites at 81%. That growth has not come without controversy \u2013 the IRS has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2024\/12\/27\/Justice-Department-JustAnswer-John-Doe-summons\/8971735310884\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opened an inquiry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into the website\u2019s use of gig workers \u2013 but put it ahead of many more established brands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A more famous answer-generating website, <strong>ChatGPT<\/strong>, also made the Big Winners list, ranked #9 in the US and higher in some other countries (France #1, UK #3, Australia #4). In the US, ChatGPT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/research\/market-research\/unique-visitors\/\">unique visitors<\/a> were up 33% in 2024, which is impressive growth on top of the rapid adoption that followed its November 2022 launch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newsweek came in at #2 on the Big Winners list, and about half of the Big Winners web domains belonged to News &amp; Media websites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-199286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-115833.png\" alt=\"Digital 100 website Big Winners\" width=\"855\" height=\"976\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-115833.png 855w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-115833-263x300.png 263w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-115833-768x877.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 855px) 100vw, 855px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Top apps focus on entertainment and commerce<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While news drove growth for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/\">top websites<\/a>, in apps Americans seemed to be looking for an escape from the news. <strong>The New York Times<\/strong> is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-apps\/google\/\">top apps<\/a> list, but for the app that provides access to word games and puzzles that have become an increasingly important part of the newspaper\u2019s digital portfolio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with the growing gaming interest from users of the NYTimes, the #2 app on the list, Brawl Stars, grew its app audience 120% in 2024. <strong>Brawl Stars<\/strong> is a multiplayer online battle arena, Another game, <strong>Dice Dreams<\/strong>, a multiplayer dice game, grew its user count 53%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ecommerce and ordering apps included Panda Express, Depop \u2013 Buy and Sell Clothes, and Costco (+35%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-199287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-120103.png\" alt=\"Digital Winners apps Big Winners\" width=\"849\" height=\"965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-120103.png 849w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-120103-264x300.png 264w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-21-120103-768x873.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 849px) 100vw, 849px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>News and opinion sites prominent among the Big Winners websites<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">News and opinion websites were prominent among the Big Winners, benefitting from interest in the US presidential election. Newsweek ranked as the #2 Big Winners website, partly on the strength of its positioning as a relatively neutral and nonpartisan source of reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Substack may have benefitted from the opposite trend toward more opinionated and partisan publishing.
