We&#8217;ll also share lessons from this mission-driven confectionary brand so that other CPG brands can improve their digital performance.<\/p>\n<h2>Sweet product, sweeter mission<\/h2>\n<p>In his effort to end child slavery in the chocolate industry, television producer and investigative journalist Teun van de Keuken founded Tony&#8217;s Chocolonely in 2006. His mission to create \u201c100% slave-free chocolate,\u201d became a core part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/research\/audience-and-brand-building\/brand-identity\/\">brand\u2019s identity<\/a>. These priorities are reflected by <a href=\"https:\/\/tonyschocolonely.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its homepage<\/a>, with the organization of its main menu (our mission, join in, chocoshop), and the above-the-fold content (reading left to right \u201cour mission\u201d is before its \u201cchoco shop\u201d). A section of the website, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/tonyschocolonely.com\/blogs\/news\/why-we-are-not-on-all-lists-of-ethical-chocolate-brands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Why we are not on all lists of ethical chocolate brands<\/a>&#8221; even addresses those that question the brand&#8217;s ability to live up to its mission, showing both dedication and transparency.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-74384 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-25-at-11.02.44-PM.png\" alt=\"Top Candy Brand: Tonys. It\u2019s this strong identity that drives Amazon shoppers to specifically look for Tony&#8217;s Chocolonely on the platform. Tony&#8217;s Chocolonely\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/ecommerce\/retail-insights\/ecommerce-conversion-optimization\/\">conversion rate<\/a> exceeds 55%, which is more than three times Amazon&#8217;s candy and the chocolate category average (17.8%). Once viewed, more than half of Tony&#8217;s shoppers buy.<\/p>\n<h2>Lesson 2: Get exposure by leveraging Amazon for search and discovery<\/h2>\n<p>Despite high conversion metrics, loyalty metrics are low. If they like the products, shoppers go directly to its website, or, use its <a href=\"https:\/\/us.tonyschocolonely.com\/pages\/store-locator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">store locator<\/a> to support a local retailer for future purchases.<\/p>\n<p>Soaring monthly visits to Tony\u2019s D2C website support this behavior. Using Shopper Intelligence,\u00a0we see that combined desktop and mobile monthly traffic grew more than 600% from January 2020 to March 2021 (14,399 visits to 107,179 visits).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-74358 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Monthly-visits-4.png\" alt=\"Tony's Chocoloney D2C website\" width=\"1367\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Monthly-visits-4.png 1367w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Monthly-visits-4-300x106.png 300w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Monthly-visits-4-1024x361.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Monthly-visits-4-768x271.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1367px) 100vw, 1367px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With nearly 14% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/marketing\/marketing-strategy\/traffic-share\/\">traffic share<\/a>, Tony\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/us.tonyschocolonely.com\/collections\/all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201call products\u201d page<\/a>, part of the \u201cChocoshop,\u201d had the strongest performance on the website, demonstrating that users visit the website to shop.<\/p>\n<h3>Key takeaways<\/h3>\n<p>Since most consumers already regularly visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/amazon.com\/\">amazon.com<\/a> brands should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/ecommerce\/amazon-insights\/optimize-amazon-listings\/\">optimize their listings<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/e-commerce-and-shopping\/marketplace\/\">top eCommerce marketplace worldwide<\/a> for maximum exposure. Once shoppers get familiar with your brand, they may be more likely to try it on Amazon or visit your website in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The price point of most candy products can also serve as an advantage. Purchases at low prices can help non-Prime members reach the minimum purchase amount to qualify for free shipping. Rather than spending a few dollars for delivery, consumers would rather buy a bar of chocolate.
