In H1 2021, 49% of shoppers for electronics on walmart.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/corp\/shopper\/shopper-behavior\/\">cross-shopped<\/a> the same category in Amazon, indicating that consumers are looking for the biggest bang for their buck, and lack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/research\/audience-and-brand-building\/brand-loyalty\/\">loyalty<\/a> to specific retailers.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s a rising loyalty to specialty, discount electronics websites \u2013 compounding consumers\u2019 value-oriented mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Take electronics discount retailer Newegg, which claims to offer \u201cthe best price on computer parts.\u201d Fewer Newegg customers appear to be cross-shopping on Amazon than a year ago. In H1, clicks to <i>laptop stand for desk <\/i>grew 2542%, and clicks to the <i>wireless keyboard and mouse combo <\/i>climbed 624%.<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Other fast-growing, office-related keywords suggest consumers are adapting to becoming digital nomads with hybrid work setups. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>UPS (<\/i>uninterruptible power supply) <i>battery backup<\/i> (+913%)<\/li>\n<li><i>Computer cases<\/i> (+628%)<\/li>\n<li><i>Portable Bluetooth speaker (<\/i>1359%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Takeaways<\/h3>\n<p>Employees have adapted to working remotely and are serious about crafting the best work environment. Even with the vaccinated U.S. population exceeding 50%, the threat of variants, along with employers cutting down on office space to save costs, indicates remote or hybrid working is here to stay.<\/p>\n<p>To capitalize on this trend, brands should integrate office-related keywords, like the above, into product descriptions on Amazon and other marketplaces to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/blog\/ecommerce\/amazon-insights\/optimize-amazon-listings\/\">optimize their listings<\/a> and increase their chances of topping the search results.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Work-play balance: Game on<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/corp\/shopper\/consumer-demand\/\">Consumer demand<\/a> for PC gaming rose during the pandemic and continues to climb. On Amazon, <i>gaming PC<\/i> searches are up 90% YoY and clicks to <i>gaming laptops <\/i>grew 915%!<\/p>\n<p>We suspect that lockdowns and sold-out consoles (like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS) initially contributed to this growth.
