But before you burn your router and boycott the internet, I\u2019d ask you to finish this article first.<\/p>\n<p>With COP26 approaching and climate change growing as a hot topic, people are hunting for ways to educate their minds, eliminate their waste, and engage in the conversation on the quest to go green \u2013 all on the internet! Maybe the world wide web isn\u2019t so bad after all.<\/p>\n<p>Here at Similarweb, we analyzed key data points to see exactly <strong>how the climate change conversation is heating up online<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Our internet environmental search data depicts:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Climate change keywords have been trending, peaking in April at 145.5K searches<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/top-websites\/science-and-education\/environmental-science\/\">Environmental education sites<\/a> experienced the highest % growth at +89.3% YoY<\/li>\n<li>Visits to environmental non-profits climbed 18.9% YoY<\/li>\n<li>Interest in solar-based products on Amazon saw a 36.6% jump in search<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We\u2019ve also uncovered:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018COP26\u2019 has been searched for more than \u2018Truth Social\u2019 in the days leading up to the conference<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Trump\u2019 is Googled more than \u2018Climate Change\u2019<\/li>\n<li>The UK\u2019s Telegraph is leading the climate change conversation in the media, with the most mentions of COP26<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Internet users are more interested than ever in climate change<\/h2>\n<p>Climate change has officially surpassed trend status as internet users express more interest than ever in the global phenomenon, with climate-change-charged keywords peaking at 145.5K searches in April and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/\">web traffic<\/a> to environmental sites escalating at an astonishing rate. Still, even though people know issues like global warming are very real and very bad, they don\u2019t always know the best ways to tackle it themselves.\u00a0 As a climate-conscious homeowner, how do you create a zero-carbon home, for example? Fortunately, <strong>the internet has turned information into running water; people just need to turn the tap to go online and fill their cup.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Search terms: bees, Bitcoin, and the point of no return<\/h2>\n<p>Out of the top ten environmental-related educational sites, <a href=\"https:\/\/environment.yale.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yale\u2019s School of Environment<\/a> site skyrocketed +102.6% (YoY) when comparing January &#8211; September in 2020 and 2021. And people weren\u2019t just searching for \u201cwhat is climate change\u201d. Searches demonstrated a complex, wide-ranging, and in one case, existential desire to understand it.<\/p>\n<p>Most visitors found environment-review.yale.edu by searching the following terms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>anecdote pesticide<\/li>\n<li>should we allow foreign investment natural resources<\/li>\n<li>marine fungi for agriculture<\/li>\n<li>hops good for bees<\/li>\n<li>how does the environment affect the personality<\/li>\n<li>bitcoin contamination issue rebuttal<\/li>\n<li>fungus based agriculture<\/li>\n<li>how does grocery shopping reduce carbon footprint<\/li>\n<li>when did the world reach the point of no return<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How &#8216;hot&#8217; is climate change in digital trends?<\/h3>\n<p>Context is everything. While climate change searches are increasing, how does it stack up against other topics? And, as you\u2019d expect, searches for COP26 have gone through the roof. But where are people getting their info? The official COP26 site and UN CCC site take the bulk of traffic, but what are our go-to news outlets saying? We analyzed Google search results for COP26 across four top online publications in both the U.K. and the U.S. to see. And yes, we\u2019re going greener. Similarweb <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/corp\/shopper\/\">Shopper Intelligence<\/a> shows us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.similarweb.com\/website\/amazon.com\/\">Amazon.com<\/a> saw a 36.6% increase in \u201csolar\u201d related product searches from the same time period last year.
