Bid Whist is a fast, strategic game of bidding and contracts where teams try to win “books” (tricks). It’s more complex than basic Whist, but highly rewarding as you improve your bidding judgement, card counting, and partnership play. Bids can be Uptown (high cards), Downtown (low cards), or No Trumps. The winning bidder sets the trump suit (or direction for No Trumps), then picks up the kitty and discards the same number of cards. The bidding team is awarded the first book for taking the kitty. Players then play tricks, following suit if possible; otherwise any card may be played, including trump. The bidding team aims to win enough books to meet or beat their contract, while the other team tries to set them. At the end of the round, the bidding team scores 1 point per book over six if they meet or beat their contract. If they fail, they lose points based on the contract (according to your selected rules). The game is won when a team reaches +7 or forces the opponents to -7.
