The assessment of cardiovascular risk in these algorithms takes into account age, gender, smoking status, systolic blood pressure and non-HDL cholesterol. Algorithms are presented for low, moderate, high, and very high risk populations. An important change from the previous SCORE score is the inclusion of nonfatal cardiovascular events, rather than just the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.
