Silvio Gazzaniga was a renowned sculptor who, among other works, created the FIFA World Cup trophy, selected by the committee in April 1971. His designs also include the UEFA Cup trophy (1972), the UEFA Super Cup trophy (1973), and the Baseball World Cup trophy (2001). The bronze plaque bears a logo in French: Main Prize, Special Honorary Prize 1st Class, awarded by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Juan Antonio Samaranch. CDI-W Qualification: The 1988/89 World Cup season included a qualification event at Chalet-à-Gobet near Lausanne, Switzerland.
