THE SOUKS X PAUL BEUMER / LIMITED EDITION Paul Beumer began his artistic practice as a painter. Where oil paint and linen were once his medium, thread and textile have taken their place. For The Souks, he designed a series of handwoven cloths -created in South India, infused with colour, rhythm, and narrative. Because just as in painting, his textile work revolves around composition and colour. For this collection, Beumer drew inspiration from the Madras check: a traditional South Indian pattern once worn by the working class, later carried across the globe through Dutch and British trade. By magnifying the pattern to an extreme scale, abstract colour fields emerged -merging and shifting during the weaving process. Like paint on canvas, colours transform the moment they meet. The fabrics were handwoven in Pondicherry, on the wooden loom of Shaktivel Seenuvasan, a purist who learned the craft from Argentine weaver Dara Lorenzen in the spiritual enclave of Auroville. Where machines promise speed, Shaktivel chooses intention and precision. His wife Sudha winds the thread; he weaves. Together, they keep this centuries-old craft alive, moving against the current. The textiles are made from 100% cotton and dyed without toxic substances. This is cloth created with care, with love, with intention. A collection in which composition, dedication, narrative, and colour converge. A collection born from collaboration, craftsmanship, and a shared love of textile. Care instructions: cold wash, do not dry in direct sunlight All cushions match the colors and overall appearance of the one shown in the photo. Because the fabric is artisan-woven and each cushion is handmade, there may be subtle variations in the pattern, unique details that reflect the charm and quality of true craftsmanship.
