Full Retreat Description Cancellation Policy Workshop-only spots will open once all accommodations are booked. We have four rooms available, each bookable for single or double occupancy. Rooms can be set up with one king bed or two twin beds. If you’d like a double room but only a single is available, book the single and email us—we’ll confirm and send an invoice for the balance. Hands-on Workshop Description Discover the idiosyncrasies of working with porcelain on and off the wheel! In this hands-on workshop, Martha will share her special t hrow ing and altering techniques that exploit thi s elegant and sensuous material’s best qualities. W orking with a variety of bottomless wheel-thrown forms and slabs in both the soft and leather-hard stages, Martha will demonstrate various altering techniqu es a nd additions of slabs, handles, and spouts to create an assortment of functional forms. Forms will include cups, bowls, vases, pitchers, lidded forms, and baskets. Crack repair and mending techniques will be addressed, as well as the use of a spray g un f or glaze application. Martha will also di scuss her sources of inspiration, philosophy of making, and studio practices. St udent will make their own flowing porcelain pots and have the opportunity to glaze and fire them. Martha Grover is a functional potter, living in Bethel Maine, creating thrown and altered porcelain pieces. Sh e at tended Bennington College, where she received her undergraduate degree in Architecture. After a fifth year in ceramics at Syracuse University, Martha went on to receive her MFA in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. After graduate sch ool, she was awarded multiple residencies and fellowships including the Fogelberg Fellowship at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, Sage Scholarship and Taunt Fellowship at the Archie Bray Foundation , and a yearlong residency at Red Lodge Clay Cent er.
