A partire dal secolo XV, XVI, sino alla prima metà dell'800 erano torri di guardia, facevano parte di un sistema di 218 Torri costiere della Sicilia sparse sulle coste della Sicilia usate per avvistare navi corsare o per evitare la cattura di schiavi. Furono usate con questo scopo fino alla fine dell'Ottocento. Delle due torri la Torre del Fico era del periodo spagnolo. La Torre di Magnisi fu costruita nell'800 su impulso degli inglesi in quel periodo fortemente presenti in Sicilia, ed era della tipologia della Torre Martello. Erano costruite nei tratti della costa più soggetti alle scorrerie in maniera che ogni torre fosse in vista con altre, al fine di creare una catena di comunicazione rapida ed efficace.
