PAIR%20OF%20BAS-RELIEF%20MYTHOLOGICAL%20AMPHORA%20GARNITURES%20RAISED%20ON%20ROUGE%20MARBLE%20BASESAttributed%20to%20Ferdinand%20Levillain%20and%20Ferdinand%20Barbedienne%20%7C%20unmarked%20%7C%20executed%20circa%201880Item%20%23%26nbsp%3B604VBP23P%26nbsp%3B%20A%20beautiful%20pair%20of%20garnitures%20from%20the%20fourth%20quarter%20of%20the%2019th%20century%2C%20they%20are%20vasiform%20with%20amphora%20raised%20by%20tripart%20legs%20over%20a%20triangular%20Rosso%20Levanto%20marble%20base%20finished%20with%20a%20bronze%20rim%20with%20chamfered%20edge.%20The%20amphora%20were%20almost%20certainly%20designed%20by%20Ferdinand%20Levillain%20during%20his%20time%20as%20a%20designer%20for%20Maison%20Barbedienne%2C%20though%20they%20are%20not%20marked%20by%20either%20designer%20or%20founder.%20The%20bodies%20of%20the%20amphora%20feature%20the%20same%20mythological%20scenes%20on%20each%2C%20the%20front%20with%20a%20heroic%20figure%20raising%20his%20spear%20to%20heaven%20while%20dismounted%20from%20his%20winged%20horse%20while%20on%20the%20back%20a%20helmeted%20figure%20raises%20his%20shield%20to%20protect%20his%20face%20while%20he%20lowers%20his%20spear%20towards%20the%20earth.A%20clever%20design%2C%20the%20top%20is%20made%20such%20that%20a%20candlestick%20can%20be%20attached%20by%20the%20foundry%20at%20the%20request%20of%20the%20client%20%5Band%20we%20have%20seen%20examples%20of%20this%20amphora%20with%20candle%20wells%20and%20candle%20sticks%20added%2C%20presumably%20by%20the%20foundry%20at%20the%20time%20of%20sale%5D.%20It%20also%20makes%20the%20pair%20an%20easy%20target%20for%20conversion%20into%20table%20lamps%2C%20though%20fortunately%20that%20has%20not%20been%20attempted%20with%20the%20present%20pair%20and%20they%20remain%20in%20their%20perfectly%20original%20state.A%20positively%20gorgeous%20pair%20with%20so%20many%20useful%20places%20-%20ideally%20these%20would%20have%20been%20placed%20on%20the%20fireplace%20mantel%20on%20either%20side%20of%20a%20great%20painting%20or
