Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a colourless and volatile liquid that has been widely used as a solvent in various organic synthesis reactions. Due to its strong polarity and low boiling point, it can dissolve a variety of organic compounds, including alkyl halides, organolithium reagents, and Grignard reagents. It is particularly useful in reactions that involve the formation of cyclic compounds or in the formation of enol ethers.
