Bernhard Lang’s Hermetika IX – Vox Angeli II centers the female voice and draws on texts from the Nag Hammadi scriptures, where the tension between the divine and the earthly is especially pronounced. Across four contrasting movements, Lang intertwines sensual biblical fragments, echoes of Palestrina, and electronically transformed sound material with stylistic elements from classical music, jazz, and rock. Mezzo-soprano Els Mondelaers embodies both angels and demons, while the musicians of Nadar Ensemble and electronics interweave the musical layers. The fusion of extreme opposites remains deliberately unresolved—up to the final note.
