Isabel Ferrando is a great story. Coming from the banking business outside of the Rhone but loving the wines, along with her husband, she acquired an estate of over 42 acres and has since added some additional acreage, now totaling 55 acres. In both 2009 and 2010, she has gone to 100% stem inclusion during her fermentation. Isabel Ferrando purchased this old Châteauneuf domaine from the Serre family in 2002. In 1920, Fernand Serre bought the property, located in the southern quarter of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and became one of the first in the region to estate-bottle his production.  Isabel is now the guardian of very old vines, mostly Grenache, some of which are over 100 years old.  Although the domaine was never very well-known before, Isabel’s intention, with the assistance of star oenologist Philippe Cambi and under the tutelage of Henri Bonneau, is to produce wines that can rival the very best of the appellation.  She practices organic farming, crop-thinning to ensure low yields, aging in demi-muids and small oak barrels, and bottling without filtration.
