Baden er én af de store vinregioner i Tyskland med knap 15.900 hektar vinmarker og samtidig den varmeste af vinregionerne, da området ligger godt beskyttet af Schwarzwald skoven og Vogesbjergene mod vest. Derfor er vinene fra Baden også ofte fyldigere og har mere alkohol end i de andre tyske vinregioner. Underområdet Kaiserstuhl regnes som det varmeste og bedste område i regionen og er yderligere begunstiget med en vulkansk undergrund. Samlet findes der 9 underområder eller subzoner i Baden, nemlig: Tauberfranken Badische Bergstrasse Kraichgau Ortenau Breisgau Kaiserstuhl Tuniberg Markgräflerland Bodensee Ses der på vinproduktionen, så er Baden fortsat præget af mange kooperativer … der findes omkring 100 kooperativer, som samlet står for 85% af regionens samlede vinproduktion på i alt 1,1 millioner hektoliter vin. De mest dyrkede sorter i Baden er primært burgunder sorterne, altså Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, men derudover fylder Müller-Thurgau godt, mens Riesling ikke spiller helt så stor rolle i Baden.
