Arnolds Andersons (b.1991) is an artist who divides his time between Riga, Latvia, and London, UK. This presented selection of paintings, created over a two-year period, delves into the complexities of light, space, and human emotion. Andersons' fascination with the interplay between light and shadow, combined with his bold use of color, is evident in each piece, creating a vibrant and almost hypnotic visual experience. Arnolds melds reality and surrealism with a masterful touch, depicting ancient Greek sculptures or idealized male forms while using expressive colors and shapes to capture the mood rather than the setting. His anonymous figures feel both connected to and detached from their environment, infusing each piece with a narrative tension that draws you in, leaving you pondering their untold stories and hidden emotions. The quiet moments he captures reflect a self-sufficient solitude that seems to be Andersons' own ideal, underlining the importance of finding peace and introspection with oneself amid life's chaos. Growing up in post - Soviet Latvia as a young gay man, he experienced a stifling claustrophobia when it came to expressing his sexuality. Even today, homosexuality remains a divisive topic in Latvia. Andersons' art with its unapologetic references to gay culture, serves as a powerful form of activism, challenging societal norms and pushing for acceptance in a world still to ready to judge. Andersons spent his last years living and working in London, England. He finished Riga Design and Art School, Department of Interior Design (2007-2011) and graduated from Kinston University, BA (hons) Degree of Product Design (2011-2014). His works have been featured in group shows around Europe being awarded with XI Young Painter Prize in Vilnus, Lithuania and displayed among well-known authors in Terrence Higgins Trust Charity auction show at Christie's in London.
