International Metabolic Health Day: 10-10-23 The Oncology Nutrition Institute is a proud sponsor of the inaugural Metabolic Health Day happening on October 10th. It's a fantastic day to generate awareness and to practice metabolic health approaches ... AND it's also our founder's birthday! It is well recognized that cancer is a metabolic disease, and metabolic imbalances now affect over seventy-five percent of Americans. On October 10th let's all do something to help change these bleak statistics. What are some ways you can participate in this important day? Try intermittent fasting. Gradually increase time between meals. Fasting has been shown to potentially enhance response to breast cancer treatment. Get at least one hour of outdoor activity - play! Optimal vitamin D levels have been shown to decrease cancer risk in several types of cancer. Order a vitamin D level test. Eat at least five different nutrient dense and fiber-rich plant foods a day - i.e. raspberries, broccoli, ground flaxseed, avocados, apples, and Jerusalem artichokes. A high dietary fiber intake in young women has been found to decrease risk of breast cancer. Swap out white sugar for lower glycemic options. Try low glycemic lucuma powder, apple sauce, or local honey instead.
