Begin 2019 sloten we een succesvolle fundraising af. Samen met meer dan 1.000 lezers, verenigingen en organisaties haalden we €100.000 op om ons magazine een jaar lang verder te zetten en intussen op zoek te gaan naar een duurzame oplossing. Nu het einde van het jaar bijna in zicht is, is het tijd voor een stand van zaken. De voorbije 10 maanden hebben we alles op alles gezet om ons magazine te kunnen blijven uitbrengen. We gingen langs bij mediahuizen, uitgeverijen en productiehuizen met de vraag om een structurele samenwerking. Overal werden we enthousiast ontvangen. Dat Charlie een mooi merk is en een waardevolle stem in het medialandschap, hoorden we. Maar telkens volgde een tijdje later de boodschap dat er intern te veel uitdagingen of andere prioriteiten waren. Met de dalende verkoop van kranten en papieren magazines, en alle uitdagingen voor online journalistiek, is dat te begrijpen. Maar dat maakte de boodschap natuurlijk niet minder jammer. Ook van de overheid hoeven we weinig te verwachten. Het regeerakkoord is vrij duidelijk wat betreft de ondersteuning van organisaties die inzetten op diversiteit en inclusie. En ook qua mediabeleid lijkt het erop dat er in deze legislatuur opnieuw vooral voordelen zullen zijn voor de grote spelers,
