This is a so-called "backing plate" for Alfa Romeo Nord engines with 2 twin-choke carburettors. If you are looking for this part, you are probably very much aware of why this is a necessity when you delete the original Alfa Romeo airfilter set-up. Nevertheless a short explanation: The Alfa Romeo Nord engines were usually, not always, equipped with 2 twin-choke carburettors: Weber DCOE, Dellorto DHLA, Solex DDH and ADDHE and in the later Transaxle models also with the Weber DCOM. These carburettors are connected to the inlet manifold through the rubber carburettor mounts. These mounts provide both vibration- as well as heat- insulation. Inherent to this system is that the carbs can "move" independently to each-other which upsets the balance adjustment. In extreme cases, one carburettor can activate the throttle of the other! Highly unwanted! Alfa Romeo solved this by attaching a sturdy, cast aluminum, airfilter housing to both carbs, thus securing them to eachother. This also serves as the part to which the vertical carb support is attached. When this housing is removed to make room for aftermarket air filters or trumpets, the connection between the carbs is lost, as is the attachement of the carb support. You can now easily remedy this by using this backing plate which attaches to the air filter side of both carbs, thus securing them again and providing attachment for the carb support.
