This is the virtual reality companion application to the Determination of Brain Death and Family Communication Physician Training Program. In this portion of the training, the learner is invited into an immersive scenario-based learning experience utilizing their mobile device. These scenarios allow the learner to explore concepts and practice skills that have been covered in the eLearning portion of the training. The learner interacts with a virtual physician (avatar) who guides them through the brain death determination process, including performing the bedside neurologic exam and apnea test and communicating with the patient’s family. The experience is presented in three scenarios. The first begins with the patient’s admission, where you meet and interact with the patient’s wife. Branching technology and a “Conversation Effectiveness Meter” provide immediate feedback as learners select (or speak via Voice Command) language choices to clearly and compassionately explain the patient’s condition and prepare his wife for the brain death evaluation. The virtual physician engages the learner in a variety of interactive tasks designed to apply knowledge and practice critical skills as they perform the brain death neurological examination and apnea test.
