At such moments, he faces a choice: to continue serving the state and the people honestly and with dignity, or to give in to the temptation of corruption and abuse of power. In the latter case, however, it is unlikely that he will make it peacefully to retirement—being caught taking a bribe is all too easy, and then arrest and confiscation of all property become inevitable.
