A diver's lead is not one number. It moves with the water, the suit, the cylinders and the year — and most divers carry it in their head, or work it out again badly at every new destination. Weights Check keeps the record instead. Build a rig once from your own gear, record what you actually wore and how it went, and the next dive starts from evidence rather than memory. It is a library, not a calculator and not a verdict on your rig. The arithmetic is there to make the library worth keeping. YOUR GEAR, ENTERED ONCE Cylinders, suits, wings, backplates, regulators, lights and stages go in once, across the seven categories a rig is actually built from: exposure, cylinders, regulators, buoyancy device, deco and stage bottles, accessories, and ballast. A configuration is built by picking from that library, so the second rig takes a minute and the tenth takes less. PLAY WITH A RIG BEFORE YOU DIVE IT Copy a configuration and change one thing. Swap the 5 mm for a drysuit. Put the same rig in fresh water instead of the sea. Go from a single to doubles, add a stage, move the lead from the belt to the plate. Everything follows, and the copy stays a plan until you dive it and record a check against it. THE BALANCE, DRAWN Every configuration opens with the dive drawn as one line on a single signed axis: where the rig sits holding a stop with the cylinders nearly empty, and what it would take to swim up from depth if the wing failed. Floats above the line, sinks below it, with the line itself the heaviest stroke on the drawing and labelled in words. Both figures are printed as numbers as well, because two bars of similar height are not something an eye can subtract. ESTIMATES UNTIL YOU CHECK, MEASUREMENTS AFTERWARDS Before you have recorded a weight check, a suit's buoyancy comes from a published-material estimate and the answer prints as a range, labelled as an estimate — because that is what it is. Record one real weight check, with the water it happened in, the pressure in the cylinders, the lead you wore and where it sat, and the range narrows around what your own rig actually did. Recording checks is what turns the estimates into your numbers; nothing else does. WHERE IT STOPS It does not replace the weight check you do in the water — that check is the authority, and the app exists to remember it, not to stand in for it. It is not a dive computer, it runs no decompression calculation, and it is not a substitute for training. Where it cannot answer, it says so rather than printing a number with a caution underneath: a stage the anchoring check did not carry, or a change of water before you have entered your own weight, are both refused outright and explained. Above a load you set for yourself it warns. Below that load it shows you the signed number and nothing more.
