In the first week, how often your newborn wets and soils a diaper — and what color it is — is the most direct sign of whether they're getting enough milk. · An exclusively breastfed newborn typically has about 2 wet diapers on day one and 2–3 on day two. Once your milk comes in, six or more in 24 hours with pale, clear urine usually means feeding is going well. · Breastfed babies often pass 5–6 loose, golden stools a day, a little after most feeds, or one large soft stool every few days. Constipation is uncommon and more often seen with formula feeding: crying, straining without result, or hard dry stools, often with a bloated tummy.
