Mornings where what you actually want to do — writing, research, drawing,
code — never arrives, because the things you have to do (morning pages,
email, social media, news) got there first.
This is not an app for people who slack off.
It is an alarm and a gate for the serious kind of person who gets through
every obligation and has nothing left for the real work.
-- Put a gate on the one route you always take
The alarm is the one thing you pass through almost every morning.
sekimori redesigns that moment into the first checkpoint of the day for
what you actually want to do.
[The core loop]
1. The night before, set a time, what you want to do, and how long
2. It rings once at that time -- press Stop
3. The count starts the moment you stop it (keep sekimori on screen)
4. Switching to another app starts you over
(screen off and lock screen are fine)
5. Once you have put in the time, the Stamp button unlocks
6. Stamp your pass -- a pass is added to the calendar
[Design principles]
- An alarm that does not keep ringing. You cannot create under a siren.
Once is enough.
- A time-locked pass. You cannot stamp before the time is up.
That is the tooth that kills stamping early and walking away.
- Not too many controls. No decisions first thing in the morning.
You set it the night before.
- The calendar is the real bait. Not wanting to break the run is what
keeps you going. The pass is a tall pentagon, shaped after a real
travel pass, and it stays on the calendar.
[Who this is for]
- People whose warm-up (morning pages and the like) has become the
terminus instead of the on-ramp
- People whose whole morning fails to catch when they wake up late
- People who prioritize what is necessary so hard they never reach
the real work
- Anyone who wants to move a novel, artwork, research, or a personal
project -- the kind of thing nobody else will ever restart for you --
first thing in the morning
[Privacy]
- Everything you enter (times, task names, passes) stays on your device
- No cross-device sync, no cloud storage
[Free and premium]
- Free app. An ad is shown when the count starts. It appears while you
are not looking at your phone, needs no action, and closes itself
after a few seconds
- Every basic alarm feature is free:
multiple alarms / repeat (daily, weekdays, chosen days) / flashlight
while ringing / the Morning Gate and the Night Gate / pre-bell /
rescue alarm / stopping with a winding slide / looking back over
your passes
- Looking back over what you have built up is free too: a monthly pass
rate, shown separately for the Morning Gate and the Night Gate. Even
with a streak broken, you can still see "this month is falling apart"
or "last month went well" month by month
- Premium (a monthly plan, with a 7-day free trial) turns off the ad
during the count, and includes every premium feature added from here on
- Cancel before the free trial ends and you are not charged.
Cancel from Google Play
[Requirements]
- Android only (an iOS version is under consideration)
- On first launch it walks you through granting notifications, exact
alarms, and exclusion from battery optimization
- On OEM devices (Xiaomi, Oppo, and similar) be sure to exclude
sekimori from battery optimization. If the system kills it,
it will not ring
