Tlotlo (respect, in Setswana) is a South African-designed app that helps guardians and children build good habits together — without shame, shouting, or screen-time battles. Your child looks after Bubu, a meerkat who lives in a meadow on their phone. When they do their homework, help at home, or get through a hard thing, you send Bubu a meal. Your child feeds him, he grows, and he earns coins for them. Nothing is a chart. Nothing is a score. How it works You send, they feed. Homework done, kind to a sibling, home on time — a few taps and a meal is in their lunchbox. It takes seconds, and you can recall one if you sent it by mistake. They grow a companion. Bubu moves through five stages as he's fed, and earns more per meal the bigger he gets. Progress is something a child can see, not a number they're told. Coins, and the big one. Coins buy small things you've agreed on — choosing dinner, a movie night. Or your child saves for one big thing: a bicycle, a fashion voucher, whatever you've set. The big one is a picture that uncovers itself piece by piece as they save, so waiting becomes something they can watch happen. A rough day doesn't undo a good month. When things go wrong, the sky over Bubu turns grey instead of coins being taken away. One kind thing clears it. Nothing a child has earned is ever removed. Why families use Tlotlo Inclusive by design — no human figures. Bubu and Tlou are friendly animal characters with no gender or race attached. Grounded in our values — built around maikarabelo (responsibility) and botho (humanity). Rewards that mean something — you set them, from airtime to a bicycle, at prices that fit your household. Built for busy guardians — the daily action is one screen and five seconds. Safe on a shared phone — a child's device opens straight into their world; the grown-up side needs your PIN. Several grown-ups can look after the same child. Never "good" or "bad" — no judgment anywhere in the app, in any language. For parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents and caregivers, in Soweto, Mahikeng or Cape Town. Tlotlo meets your family where you are — with patience, clarity, and hope.
