ANTECEDENTES La buena gestión pesquera de las poblaciones de atún rojo (Thunnus thynnus) en el Mediterráneo, junto con la proliferación natural de esta población debido a buenos años de reproducción y reclutamiento, ha provocado un aumento significativo en la abundancia y presencia de atunes en nuestros mares. Tanto es así que la presencia de atunes ha ido creciendo en la costa, donde se concentran en el entorno de las jaulas de engorde donde encuentran alimento “fácilmente”, pues sus presas naturales (alacha, sardina, jurel) se encuentran en grandes concentraciones. Por otro lado, el engorde de atún en jaulas flotantes también ha ido creciendo en los últimos años, y eventos meteorológicos puntuales (como el temporal Gloria) ha provocado la rotura de instalaciones y que un gran número de atunes se encuentren en libertad por nuestras costas.
