This means, some people will be released from custody earlier than their original date of liberation. Only certain people are eligible – those serving short-term sentences of less than four years who are within 180 days of their release date. There are also a range of additional exclusions, including for certain offences, as well as a Governor’s veto. Early releases will begin on 11 November and will continue on a regular basis until April 2026.
