In North America, there are two common backsets for residential door locks: 2 3/8 inches (60mm) 2 3/4 inches (70mm) Whether you are going for a passage or a privacy function, a 2 3/8” (60mm) or 2 3/4” (70mm) latch is needed, depending on which backset you have. You know what they say, measure twice, cut once… but in our case, measure twice, and enjoy your hardware sooner!   How do I know which function I need to order? At Explore Hardware, we hold in our collection the 3 known door functions: Passage (AKA hallway passage) Privacy (AKA Locked entry) Single dummy     Here are a few examples that will help you decide which function you’re looking for: Passage You can install a passage function on doors that do not require being locked, such as hallways, kitchen or any indoor door in your home. Privacy Our privacy door handles and knobs use a privacy pin instead of a key. Once you order, you will automatically receive 2 lengths of the privacy pin to make sure it accommodates the common door thickness length. It is used for bathroom doors, bedrooms or any room that requires being locked from one side. Single Dummy Well, we are not being mean by calling it a dummy, it simply is there to look pretty!
