He presented to the emergency department with ICD shocks and his hemodynamics declined over a 12 hour period and blood work showed a 20 percent decline in kidney function. Amponsah placed a right heart cath and performed an echocardiogram showing LV dysfunction. The team decided to place an Impella CP in the cath lab to support the patient’s heart. This was effective in unloading the LV and organ perfusion. This also provided the team with time to transfer the patient to another facility.
