The performance of the healthcare system must be regularly evaluated to ensure its effectiveness. In Belgium the healthcare system is accessible to the majority of the population. In conjunction with the Federal Centre of Expertise in Healthcare (KCE) and the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI), we oversee its smooth running. The evaluation is performed using indicators that touch, among others, on the health status of the population, accessibility and quality of care. The information compiled through these indicators for Belgium are reported to the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for Europe-wide use.
