L'equip ha identificat el bacteri patogen causant de la febre paratifoide a través de l'anàlisi del genoma complet de dos soldats de l'exèrcit de Felip IV identificats a una fossa comuna de la Sagrera (Sant Martí de Provençals). L'estudi revela que les soques de bacteris identificades coincideixen amb les recuperades procedents del Mèxic del segle XVI i apunten a que la febre paratifoide va arribar a les Amèriques amb la colonització europea.
