Merulana translucida - die Neukaledonischen Asseln werden etwa bis zu ca. 1,8 cm groß und kommen, anders als die meisten anderen tropischen Asselarten nicht aus Asien, sondern ursprünglich aus Neukaledonien (Ozeanien). Mit ihrer breiten Erscheinungsform und den goldenen Sprenklern, die bei jeder Assel individuell angeordnet sind ein echter Hingucker. Im richtigen Licht scheinen die Merulana translucida durch die goldenen Punkte fast zu funkeln. Ein weiteres Merkmal dieser Art ist ihr in der Mitte eingekerbtes Mundschild. Merulana translucida wird noch sehr selten angeboten, die Haltung erfolgt wie bei anderen tropischen Asselarten wie z.B. Cubaris. Es sollten allerdings genügend trockene Substratbereiche angeboten werden und ein Feuchtigkeitsgefälle in der Behausung herrschen. Eine große Moosecke darf wie bei allen Asseln natürlich nicht fehlen. An Futter gehen sie wie andere Asseln problemlos an Fischflocken, Laub und Flechten. Frischfutter wie Gurke, Tomate o.ä. wird in kleinen Mengen auch immer gerne gefressen. Die Vermehrungsrate scheint bei den Merulana translucida nicht übermässig hoch zu sein. Nach mehreren Generationen erfolgreicher Zucht sind inzwischen Asseln in allen Altersstufen zu entdecken, die Kolonie ist insgesamt aber noch nicht übermässig groß.
