Built 1904-8 by Sir Ernest George for the Mason family, who made their fortunes in Portuguese and Spanish Copper mines, Eynsham Hall is in the Elizabethan Style. Originally the manor house included its own waterworks, gas plant, electricity generating station and private telephone links with all parts of the 130 acre estate. Two rooms were specifically designed to house hand painted wallpaper and carvings by Owen Jones. Having survived many incarnations, including a convalescence home for injured soldiers, a police training academy, a Barclays Bank and a botanical research centre, Eynsham Hall has been run as a hotel and conference centre since 1981. Since completing some areas in 2007, Project Orange have begun a new phase of refurbishment to draw the character of this extraordinary building into the present day. Focussing on the main dining areas, conference facilities, and bedrooms, these design proposals add a touch of English Eccentricity to the building's heritage. The interior design of these rooms take their inspiration from the glorious heritage of the site and feature Edwardian fabrics matched with contemporary patterns. Using materials such as copper which have strong links to the history of the building and design, which responds intelligently to the unique spaces. Expected completion is May 2015.
