A latent image is what a frame of film holds after exposure, before development — a picture that already exists, but can't yet be seen. The photograph is born the moment you press the shutter; it just hasn't appeared. Latent keeps that latent image for every shot you take: the full RAW negative. Any photo can return to that moment — load a different film stock, rebalance the exposure, and develop it again.
