The legislation includes provisions for enhanced background checks for those under 21, disarming domestic abusers, and cracking down on gun trafficking, as well as funding for community violence intervention, mental health initiatives, and safety measures in schools. Banning Assault Weapons When shooters are armed with assault weapons, instances of gun violence are instantaneously made more dangerous and deadly. As an original cosponsor of the legislation in 2019, Congresswoman Trahan proudly voted for the Assault Weapons Ban Act in 2022 to prohibit the importation, sale, and manufacturing of assault weapons.&nbsp; Preventing Abusers from Access to Firearms Under current law, domestic abusers are too often allowed to maintain their gun ownership, posing a life threatening risk to their partners.
