Hoewel het Latijn aan weinig veranderingen onderhevig is - het is immers een dode taal en het aantal vondsten van onbekende teksten is beperkt - zijn de eisen die gebruikers aan een woordenboek Latijn/Nederlands stellen alsook de Nederlandse taal dat wél. Het woordenboek speelt in op deze veranderingen en is daarin bijzonder succesvol gebleken. Net als eerdere drukken is het woordenboek mede gericht op een publiek van niet-professionele classici. Door de combinatie van oude en nieuwe eigenschappen blijft dit woordenboek bij uitstek geschikt voor leerlingen in de laatste klassen van het vwo, studenten en beroepsbeoefenaren die met Latijnse teksten in aanraking komen. Wat is er nieuw aan deze herziene editie: - Talrijke lemmata zijn verbetered en aangevuld, onder andere op basis van lezersreacties. - Het voor- en nawerk zijn voor handiger gebruik aangepast qua vorm en inhoud. - De alfabetische volgorde van de lemmata is duidelijker aangegeven. Deze herziene zevende editie verschijnt zowel in boekvorm als online (www.latijnnederlands.nl). Harm Pinkster was emeritus hoogleraar Latijnse taal- en letterkunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zijn wetenschappelijke publicaties liggen voornamelijk op het gebied van de Latijnse taalkunde (o.a. 'On Latin Adverbs en Oxford Latin syntax') en van Cicero's boeken over redenaarskunst ('De Oratore'). Met Caroline Kroon schreef hij 'Latijn: een eerste kennismaking' en met Akke Pinkster verzorgde hij de Nederlandse editie van Tore Jansons boek 'Latijn: cultuur, geschiedenis en taal (AUP).
