Den letzten Schritt in die Königsklasse verdankte die kleine Truppe der Formel 1 Begeisterung des Grafen Teofilo Guiscardo Rossi di Montelera, Mit-Namensgeber des berühmten Martini & Rossi Konzerns. Mit diesem Budget im Rücken ließ sich sogar der Traum von einem eigenen 180° 12-Zylinder entwickeln, der 1972 in Spa debütierte. Doch schon Anfang 1973 begannen die ersten Meinungsverschiedenheiten. Die Pederzanis wollten den jungen Clay Regazzoni, während Geldgeber Rossi und Teammanager David Yorke auf die Erfahrung von Chris Amon setzten. Der Streit führte soweit, dass die Teamgründer ein neues Chassis, den PA123, von Alan McCall entwickeln ließen, während Rossi und Yorke bei Gordon Fowell den E731 bauen ließen, ein modernes Design, dessen Front eher an den Lotus 72 erinnerte.
