The aim of this study is to develop a new ocular trauma scoring system that will predict the prognosis of open globe injury more accurately, more easily and practically. Our application was prepared according to the results of the prospective study. It is for informational purposes only and provides estimated results in open eye injuries.
This application is intended to provide general information related to ocular trauma and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The information provided by this app should not be used as the sole basis for making medical decisions. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on this app.
Patients who have experienced ocular trauma and their relatives are most concerned about the prognosis, and medicolegal issues in this regard pose significant challenges for physicians. To address this, Kuhn et al. (1) developed an Ocular Trauma Score (OTS) in 2002. However, in some cases, particularly where visual acuity at the initial hospital admission is not accurately assessed, the OTS may be insufficient. For this reason, Acar et al. (2) developed a Pediatric OTS (POTS) for the pediatric patient group. A similar and up-to-date classification should also be created for adults. We developed a new trauma scoring system to predict the visual acuity of a patient after ocular trauma. The aim of our study is to predict the visual prognosis of individuals who have experienced trauma.
This study was developed for individuals over the age of 18 who have experienced ocular trauma. After obtaining detailed written informed consent from the patients at the time of admission, they were included in our follow-up program. The study only evaluated the patient's examination findings and compared the results. The study lasted for a total of 3 years. Our study has been completed, and based on the data we obtained, we developed a scoring system.
The data of individuals using this application will not be stored or shared with other persons or institutions. The application we developed based on our study does not contain information related to any surgical or medical treatment, nor does it make any recommendations. The information you obtain after using the application is not definitive but is intended to be a guide.
Approval for this study was obtained from the Local Ethics Committee of Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine (dated 07.04.2021, decision number 2021/191, meeting number 2021/07).
