In the United States, ASMR is again the top term, but the landscape diversifies quickly. High-ranking keywords include “CoryxKenshin”, a popular gaming YouTuber, and “SNL”, pointing to an audience tuned into culturally relevant, real-time entertainment.

  • The U.S. median volume (216K) is less than a quarter of the global median, showing a sharper drop-off after the top terms.
  • Searches are more top-heavy, with a few dominant creators and formats capturing the bulk of interest.
  • U.S. users seem especially drawn to entertainment genres, reaction-style content, and individual personalities, underscoring YouTube’s role in creator economy dynamics.

These figures point to a hyper-personalized search pattern, where users often look up specific individuals or shows rather than broader categories.

Top Keyword: sidemen

Top Keyword Volume: ~1.45 million

Total Search Volume (Top 1000 Keywords): ~72.4 million

Average Monthly Search Volume: ~72.4K

Median Monthly Search Volume: ~47.8K

The UK dataset highlights how regional identity shapes YouTube behavior. The top keyword, “sidemen”, refers to a UK-based YouTuber group whose popularity is deeply rooted in British pop culture and football fandom.

  • Compared to Global and US volumes, the UK has a smaller total search footprint (~72M total), but shows strong engagement with niche and local topics.
  • Arsenal, WWE, and other fandom-based queries rank high, showcasing how sports and entertainment cross over in the UK audience’s search intent.
  • The lower median volume (47.8K) illustrates a more fragmented demand curve, searches spread across many micro-topics and communities.

This indicates that while fewer searches occur overall, engagement is passionate and focused, especially on UK-native creators and football-related content.

Methodology

To gather the most searched terms on YouTube, I analyzed keyword data from Similarweb Search Intelligence for January-March 2025. I ordered the list based on the search volume for each term across this period.
Similarweb’s monthly search volume for YouTube is based on real-user data, not like most tools, which get averages from publicly sourced data.

By using Similarweb’s YouTube Keyword Generator!

With this tool, you can pull accurate, targeted, and trending YouTube-specific keywords to energize your video marketing strategy.
Get started by heading over to Similarweb’s keyword research suite. Find the YouTube keyword tool under Keyword Research > Keyword Generator.

YouTube keyword tool

Select the YouTube option in the dropdown menu at the top of the report, add in your seed keyword, I choose “vacation” term for example, and start generating thousands of YouTube keywords.

Once here, you’ll see a large number of phrase-matched and related keywords and their associated search volume and volume trend, so you can hit your target audience with the right message at the right time.

To sum up

There’s no denying that YouTube is kind of a big deal. By exploring and analyzing real-user YouTube search data on one of the biggest platforms in the world (and with help from Similarweb’s YouTube Keyword Generator), marketers can get their hands on the trends that are captivating a global audience.

Just by looking at the top 100 YouTube searches here, we’ve learned the types of videos that people respond to, and that emotionally-led, authentic content is the key to building genuine (and lasting) connections with a target audience.
