Founded by the Brannon family in 1981 as Smith Electric, an Electrical Contractor serving the Central Coast, the company quickly added plumbing, HVAC-mechanical, and general construction to its portfolio after its inception. In 2019, Smith Electric became Smith Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (Smith MEP), a subsidiary of ACCO Engineered Systems, serving throughout the California Central Coast, from Fresno to Bakersfield.
