The Great White App is a shark tracking app that lets you explore sharks tagged by the Sustainable Oceans Society. Explore the live map and learn about different sharks and their stories, see photos and view their migration over time. FAQs: Q: Why hasn't a shark moved in x days, weeks or months? A: Locations only occur when a shark's dorsal fin, and thus the satellite tag, break the surface of the ocean and link to satellites in orbit. It isn't uncommon for the sharks to spend weeks underwater before coming to surface again Q: How accurate are locations? The longer the tag is above the water, the more accurate a location fix from satellites. Highly accurate locations are to within less than 250m while some very brief satellite fixes make locations only accurate to several kilometres which is why, at times, some shark locations may appear to be 'on the land' but it is due to lower accuracy locations, near the coast. Q: What does purchasing this app do? A: The app will always be free to access on our website sustainableoceansociety.co.nz .
