I am a Reclaimed White Oak Wood Bean Large Tray. Curved like a thought bubble, sturdy like oak. I host teapots and teacups with the poise of someone who’s done this before.   Curator's Notes This new tray series with Koizumi-san gave us the opportunity to work with a material that feels deeply familiar—white oak. It’s the wood we chose for many of the fixtures in our gallery, and one we often use in our own home for furniture. The trays are made from offcuts of white oak furniture production, which makes the project feel all the more special. Rather than letting these remnants go to waste, Koizumi-san transforms them into something lasting and intentional. The series includes six trays in a range of shapes and sizes. The largest features a bean-like form, while the other trays (Large, Medium, Small, SS, SSS, SSSS) take on soft, outlines that remind us of gentle puddles. Each is hand-carved with attention to grain and proportion, making them as satisfying to hold as they are to use.
