WingMan For Addiction is intended primarily for individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, with a secondary audience of family members, friends, and supportive professionals contributing to the care of recovering addicts. WingMan For Addiction is focused on what research shows to be the 5- to 20-minute period during which an addict experiences a typical craving. During these periods, WingMan For Addiction offers a range of encouragement, productive distraction, and quick access to resources to allow individuals to push through the craving and maintain sobriety. The app uses a conversational chat/SMS-like UI to interact with a machine learning-enabled chatbot and create a personalized approach to each user (what specific tasks or content work best for each person to weather cravings, for example). This type of interface ideally provides a scalable facsimile of a sponsor or caring counsellor who is immediately available 24/7 -- whenever a craving hits. WingMan For Addiction is not intended to supplant existing relationships or treatments, but rather to provide additional and immediate assistance to individuals in recovery.
