Index to Successions Second District Court, 1846-1880 Second District Court was the primary court for probate matters from 1846-1880. Use the index below to locate the docket number for individual successions. From 1846-1853, successions could be filed in any of the existing Orleans Parish district courts. Although most probate matters were heard in Second District Court, successions do appear in First, Third, Fourth, and Fifth District Courts as well. The below index does reference some successions filed in these additional courts, but researchers should also consult the Index to Successions, 1846-1853 if unable to locate an individual in the index below. This index primarily references successions. However, lawsuits brought against successions are also included in the index, as are references to emancipations of minors, interdictions and, occasionally, other matters related to the administration of estates.
